Women’s strength training studio opening soon in Earlsfield, Wandsworth.

At joy, we believe strength is about more than how you look — it’s about how you move, feel and live, now and for years to come. Strength training is one of the most powerful tools we have to future-proof our bodies, build resilience and feel capable in everyday life.

Our core offering is small group personal training. Every session is coach-led and programme-driven, combining the attention of 1:1 training with the energy and accountability of training alongside others. We use progressive strength programmes designed to help you build real, lasting strength — safely, effectively and at your own pace.

joy is for women at every stage of their lifting journey. Whether you’re completely new to strength training or an experienced lifter looking for structure, progression and community, you’ll be supported and challenged in equal measure. We meet you where you are, and help you move forward with confidence.

Community is at the heart of joy. You’ll train alongside like-minded women in an encouraging, supportive environment where lifting feels empowering, not intimidating. Together, we celebrate progress over perfection, consistency over quick fixes, and the joy that comes from getting stronger — inside and out.

Meet the Founder.

Hi, I’m Jen — the founder of joy.

Throughout my teens and twenties, exercise felt tied to one goal: being thinner. After becoming a mum, I made a conscious decision to change that mindset. Instead of punishing my body, I wanted to support it — to feel strong, fit and healthy, and to future-proof my body for the long term.

After more than a decade working in marketing, I decided to follow my new passion and retrain as a Personal Trainer. I began my PT career in a boutique studio before going on to successfully run my own 1-to-1 personal training business from my home studio, specialising in women’s strength training. My approach has always been about more than physical results — it’s about helping women build confidence, resilience and a positive relationship with their bodies.

I created joy to give other women the same experience I found through strength training. A welcoming, non-judgemental space where women can feel confident and comfortable, focus on progress rather than perfection, and learn to appreciate their bodies for what they can do — not just how they look.

The studio is called joy because lifting weights genuinely brings me joy. Challenging myself, getting stronger and being fully present during training helped me reconnect with myself after becoming a mum and heal my relationship with my body.

For me, joy also comes from female friendship and community. Women have so often been pitted against one another, yet there is so much strength, happiness and support to be found when we lift each other up. Joy brings these two things together — strength training and community — so more women can experience the confidence, connection and joy that comes from getting stronger, together.

Lifting weights is so beneficial.

Future proof your body.

Strength training helps to maintain muscle mass, bone density, metabolic rate and cognitive function. It’s never too late to lift heavy – even starting later in life yields significant benefits.

Strength for real life.

Going on a ski trip, carrying groceries, playing with your kids, or simply staying independent as you age all become easier with increased muscle strength. Strength training makes daily life more manageable and enjoyable.

Build your confidence.

Physical strength leads to mental strength. Strength training releases endorphins, reducing stress, anxiety and depression. It's a natural mood enhancer and stress reliever.
